Some complete brain surgeon decided that they'd post a load of crap on MacSailing.net. I won't describe it as "hacking" as they simply registered for a user account and then posted junk.
Anyway, I've removed their posts but some of the "last edited tags" have changed.

I have a iBook with MacENC and can repeat to iNavX just fine. I also have a PC running XP with Nobeltec navigation software that I would also like to host to iNavX on my iPhone. I put the ip address in iNavX but I don't know which port to use. Has anyone tried to use iNavX with something other than MacENC? I love MacENC but my iBook is out dated and is slow. Thanks, Mark

A maintenance release mostly, bug fixes and a couple of user suggestions:

Added the date the text and graphical views.
Added the direction of the current to the text view.
Added the ability to organize the list of favorites.
Set the Nearest list to continuously updating the location, while the list is open.
Updated French and German translations.
Fixed a bug with swiping in landscape mode.
Fixed some display problems when searching the list in alphabetical order.

I have had an issue with sudden course swings for some time when selecting goto and using the nav function on my autopilot to drive along a route. Things would be great for hours, then suddenly the boat would drive off 40-60° to port, then slowly correct. I have been emailing our esteemed expert to figure it out, but the solution is worth posting for anyone else who may encounter it.

The root problem is a NMEA feedback loop, which was suggested to me. It took me a long time and another problem to see what I had done wrong. Of course one should suspect any device that is connected to miniplex talker and listener ports. In my case that was a Furuno video sounder. It has been hooked up that way without problems for a long time. Furuno's NMEA output options can be a bit confusing though. The "off" option in the setup menus does not turn NMEA output off. It still gives the output, but only that output that is generated by the sounder.

I had taken my electronics out of the wheelhouse for winter. When I put them back I ran through the setup menu and knew that I needed the NMEA output to record depth and water temperature, so I turned NMEA output to "on." This is a rather counterintuitive way of naming the output options. Since I turned NMEA output off I have still been recording depth, but without any wild course swings. I only have one Furuno device on the boat, but I suspect that the company uses the same convention on other equipment.

I love the nav option and I'm greatly relieved to finally figure out how to get that laser straight action from the autpilot once again. Many thanks for the tech support help that gave the correct answer to my problems. It just took a while to see why it was correct.

I've been toying with the idea for a little while of organising a "rally" for MacSailing members in and around the UK. I was thinking of a long weekend next year.. maybe the May bank holiday (which I think is shared across Europe).

The idea would be to get as many local MacSailing members together (hopefully with their boats) to kick fenders and have a few drinks, BBQ's etc.

I'd probably look at holding it on the UK South Coast around the Solent area, but all members who can get there would be welcome... maybe we could even get some of our US-based friends over.

Maybe this idea won't float... however it would be a lot of fun!!...

Am new to the forum, first post and all. Hi to everyone.

Have just set myself up with GPSNavX, Macbook and BU-353, Irish Maptech Charts. It is working well so far - very happy. The next step is AIS.

Was interested to know if anyone has had experience with the current range of Class B AIS Transponders? I particularly like the look of the Digital Yacht AIT250 - Has anyone used it with a mac?

Apple has approved iNavX 1.0.2 and it should show up shortly as an update in the app store.

The changes include -

Charts can be zoomed from 5% to 100%.

When a waypoint is active a green or red triangle will display in the Instruments compass indicating which way to turn to bring XTE (Cross Track Error) to zero. No triangles are shown when XTE is less than 0.01 nautical miles.

Position format D*M'S" added. Example: 44º12'16.8"N .

Auto opening of charts. If "Pos. Icon Kept Visible" is enabled in the Chart "Settings" AND If the chart displayed has your position on it, then your position goes off the displayed chart, the largest scale chart with your position will automatically be opened.

"Position" button on the "Waypoint" view will update the latitude and longitude to the current position.


iNavX will continue to be frequently improved based on the valuable feedback users provide.

in mac enc and gpsnavx, there appear ports listed as serial port 1 and serial port 2 that do not appear in the network control panel and are not accessible to either program- how do I get rid of these mystery ports (10.5.2, macbook pro, both ftdi and prolific drive installed and working as dev/cu/usbserial.

I stumbled across an application called Skunktracker that's currently in development. Skunktracker displays data from an AIS engine through a simple GUI. Although it doesn't boast the extensive charting and weather features of GPSNavX or MacENC, it does provide comprehensive detais of the AIS targets, as well as some interesting features.
