Anyone using this service? I contacted clearwire and evidently their puget sound water coverage shown on their coverage map is live now. I'm thinking of ordering it to get internet on my boat while in my slip and on the hook around the sound.

Basically the modem is 10w and the powerbook charger is 85w so my plan is:

I have a solar panel for recharging my main ship power batter so I'de be cool for weeks on end as far as I can calculate: anchor light + 8 hours of internet usage + charge cellphone, I don't use power for anything else.

Thoughts? Experience? Ideas?

I find that verssion 3 does not print the headings on current chart when they are printed. Am I missing something?

I notice that AIS ships shown in MacENC/GPSNavX are always drawn in blue color, whether they are stationary or underway.
Wouldn't it be easier to have different colors for AIS ships? Like Blue stationary, orange for those underway and Red for highspeed ships like ferry boats? Or those with a speed >20 kts?

This way one wouldn't need to change between different status in the AIS menu?

I think this would be useful in high traffic regions too, where a glimpse at the screen with colored AIS ships shows more than having to check via right mouseclick or menu.

Hey, I like the new layout. I'm a little confused about the text page. What is the relationship between the month efild and the slider under it?

BTW, my version doesn't always show tide maxima in the lower field, just a moonset time.

I've got a converted salmon troller. My view to the rear is pretty poor. I've seen rear view camera systems for RVs. I was wondering if anyone here has set up a camera that can use a MacBook, rather than a dedicated monitor.

One feature these systems have is a reverse view. This puts the port side view on the port side of the screen, stbd side on stbd side. I'd be interested in having this available.

What is the meaning of the pink thing that looks like a clock at 3 o'clock? Seems to be a warning, but I can't find it listed anywhere.

1) Start MacENC (v5.00 or later)

2) Select "TCP/IP" on the "GPS" menu

3) In the Client (Receive NMEA data)
- Enter Host as 66.235.48.168
- Enter Port as 3047
- Select the "Enable" check box

4) Select "Connect" on "AIS/RADAR" menu

5) Select "Settings" button

6) Check the "Use GPS Port" button

AIS Targets should list into the AIS panel. Select any target and press "Scroll to"

If you wish to have the targets sorted from a GPS position either connect to a GPS or use the GPS simulator.

You now have your own VTS system!

The 66.235.48.168 AIS host has receivers in the Pacific North West, Southern California, Chesapeake bay and Portland Maine.

The new MacENC rendering is really beautiful. Looks like the real thing.

Just bought March issue of Cruising World to read article on 8 Nav Programs. As usual all on PC programs and only a tiny blurb on Mac nav programs. It's sad that, in my humble opinion, that the best nav programs on the market are never covered properly in yachting rag's. Oh well Richard this GPSNavX user will continue to tell anyone who will listen about the best Mac navigational programs on the market.
