Help. I just got a text from my buddy. He's in the bay and has selected a waypoint and selected "goto" but can't get a heading. Has all other GPS data. Using GPS NavX w/ usb GPS sensor. Suggestions?

New to Mac nav issues. Want to interface Macbook Pro with Raymarine C80. According to posts I've found, I need the Keyspan serial to USB adapter, and the Raymarine GPS to serial cable. I've looked at both online and I don't like the look of the Raymarine cable: three bare wires that need to be attached somewhere. There is an unused NMEA port on back of C80, so I thought there must be an NMEA to serial cable that I could just plug in? But then I read that Raymarine doesn't support uploading of waypoints and routes, which is all I really wanted to do anyway, so what's the point of bothering to figure out and connect cables? Somewhat frustrating.... Thanks for any and all enlightening responses.

I exported my waypoints from iNavX. When I try to open them in Google earth the file is not correctly formated. I am using iNavX 2.0.2. Any ideas?

Panasonic make a Wifi/Bluetooth capable external waterproof monitor - the CF-08.

Has anyone tried to connect to a Mac with such a monitor? Would enable the safer location of a Macbook or Mini and then be able to use the monitor in potentially wet areas. Recognise iNavx allows effectively the same but this monitor offers a bigger screen.

Any guidance would be gratefully received.

I'm having some trouble getting the Keyspan to work on the XP side after running MacENC. Has anyone had success accessing a Keyspan on a VM after using it on Mac OS?

Earlier I posted a success report on VMware Fusion and USB serial interfaces (http://www.macsailing.net/fbb/showpost.php?post/3477/)

I have one unsolved VMware problem which I regard as a niche issue, as it is unique to one application combined with Fusion. The application is Endeavour Navigator 5.5 (www.hsa.com.au) "high end" navigation software used by the Royal Australian Navy and NZ Navy. We need it because MacENC doesn't support the HCRF/ARCS chart format. The unique problem is similar to the infamous Windows "crazy mouse" where the cursor jumps randomly around the screen, roughly twice every 10 seconds. I suspect Endeavour uses the Windows API in an unusual way - the GUI is full screen, not windowed.

That Endeavour problem has created a new requirement -- to switch back and forth between XP and Mac OS, where both use the Keyspan USA49WG. Until now I've had the Keyspan either dedicated to Mac OS, or dedicated to XP.

We're currently in San Francisco's high density traffic area, so Endeavour's AIS handling is a big problem (so much AIS on the screen I can't see the chart). So we are switching back to MacENC until we get to Hawaii. As you know, MacENC has really excellent AIS support.

Here's my successful experience with running a number of NMEA apps on a Mac Pro: the applications being MacENC on Mac OS and several on XP, including MaxSea, Endeavour 5.5, Airmail, Nebula and others.

I'm running Fusion 2.0.4 on XP Pro SP 3 on OS 10.5.7. Under Fusion I've been successful with simultaneous usage of up to COM 24 supported by 3 different serial interfaces. Active COMs are typically about 10. I also typically have at least 4 different USB devices running on VMware, 2 of which are USB dongles.

The three interfaces are:

Edgeport/8 = 8 port USB (XP only)
Keyspan USA49WG = 4 port USB (XP and Mac OS)
GpsGate, a virtual port sharing utility - which "clones" a single port to a number of virtual COMs (XP only)

I've been very impressed with how robust the VMware Fusion support of USB and USB-attached serial devices. I haven't run Parallels for a while so I can't comment on how solid their USB support is today. I made the switch from Parallels to VMware about July 2008 when VMware was significantly more robust.

I'm updating and backing up everything before heading out for the summer. I made a duplicate account from my laptop to my girlfriend's macbook last year and critical files are going into a shared folder on that machine. MacENC now looks identical to my primary computer when I'm logged into her machine, including annotation and waypoints.

The problem: the girlfriend doesn't mind using her computer for navigation if mine goes bad, but she is miffed that we must run MacENC under my account.

I went to the file list under MacENC help and transferred all of the listed files (except that permits, polars and transponder files don't exist on mine) from my machine to each account on the other machine. Thus the identical copy of MacENC under my account, yet under her account the app still asks for an activation code.

I asked the same question last year but never got around to working on the problem. I thought that the answer was to put duplicates of working files into both accounts, but I'm clearly missing something, including a copy of the answer from last year. I would not be miffed if we could only run MacENC under her account on that computer but I don't know how to do that either. What is the magic trick?
