Has anyone use iNavX for the iPod Touch with Coastal Explorer to provide NMEA data to the iPod Touch for positioning?

iNavX mentions Coastel Explorer but I can't find detailed information

Apparently the iNavX website used to claim that it would work with Coastal Explorer, but that was not quite true...

Both iNavX and Coastal Explorer are capable of sending and receiving data over a TCP/IP network connection. However, both programs act as "clients" that are capable of connecting to a "server". Since neither program can act as a server, a third program must be used to fill that role. GPSGate is apparently one such program (and possibly the only one commercially available).

I've never actually used GPSGate and iNavX together, so I'm afraid I can't provide all the details. We might go ahead and set something up here, though, and I'll post again if we do.

Also, if there is enough interest in this sort of thing, we will consider offering something like GPSGate, but more tightly integrated with Coastal Explorer (and easier to setup). Just let us know!

So after a bit of poking around, here's the solution I'm installing on my Dehler 101 (33ft)

Start with a Mac running MacENC (laptop or Mini)

Power your computer off your boat's battery via a supply from http://mikegyver.com/IdeasnProducts/Index.html They make great DC to DC converters for Minis and MBPros with that propitiatory Magsafe connector $120 for a refurb unit with a 1 year warranty

GPS via BU-353: GlobalSat BU-353 Waterproof USB GPS Receiver Selling now for as little as $36

Remote monitors added via USB powered Monitors (as many as you want to add no video cards needed). I bought Century's Plus One 8-inch USB monitor. It's an 800x600 monitor... Not waterproof but at less than $175 and in my small environment I'm routing an opening to insert Lexan and placing the monitor behind that. They also make a pretty cool 4.5inch model as well selling for under $100 each. I guess you could make an enclosure to mount outside too if you were so inclined

Add inexpensive USB cables for about $30 and you are done

Cost outside of your computer and software with a few odds and ends for mounting is well under $400 for a laptop and a remote 8 inch monitor.

Other than the airline adapter that Apple sells (which doesnt work plugged to my 12V socket) does anyone know of another solution for a MbPro with a Mag Safe Adapter

Has anyone attempted to create their own Polar chart using the information that is logged (with navigation instruments) with the Track function on MacENC?

My boat has Raymarine instruments S70 on seatalk SG; however, it appears that the S3 Smartpilot Course Computer has NMEA 0183 in & out connections. Is it possible to connect the instruments to the mac running GPSNavx through a Miniplex lite ?

I have recently purchased iNavX set it up on my iPhone added waypoints and am so far really happy with the software. There is just two things that I am struggling with and I am hoping someone can help me out here.

1) When I am using the software and go to Instruments Fix: Loc Mgr is all I ever get, if I switch to any other GPS software such as MotionX GPSlite it very quickly locks in a GPS fix but I cant seem to get the iNavX to switch to GPS.

2) I would like to plot a route with multiple waypoints using the iNavX software directly on the phone and I cannot seem to find where this can be done.

I am probably doing something obviously wrong but I would appreciate any assistance in solving these problems.
