I have a Garmin 60csx and GPSNavX doesn't support it. The USB protocol is Garmin specific rather than NMEA standard. Nothing new here. But it is now 2008 and Garmin isn't going away. Any thoughts to revisiting this? Could you use the GPSBabel interface library? Google Earth Plus uses GPSBabel. I'd be happy to spend $60 or $160 for GPSNavX but I'm not willing to spend a dime for another freaking USB cable, let alone two.

I am renovating the wheelhouse on my boat and want to install mounting hardware for my 17" powerbook.
I've looked at various car and truck kits. Does anybody have a recomendation regarding a durable rust proof rugged mount?

Both GPSNavX and MacENC store persistent data (i.e. waypoints, routes, tracks, etc.) in the home / Library / Preferences folder.

It is recommended to back up these files from time to time..

I have an Irwin 34 and a little ibook. It has only 128 mb of ram which I plan to upgrade to 384mb. Will this be enough ram or do i have to add more? Also , is a 10 gb hard drive sufficient to store the maps? thanks for any help.

I have just discovered this great forum and only recently learned about MacENC and GMSNavX. Is there a general beginner's guide to these apps? I have been away from sailing for several years and the technology has changed dramatically and I want to catch up. I did a quick search here but didn't find a concise beginner's guide. Can someone help, please? Thanks in advance.

I am curious if the MacENC will send data from NEMA to the SR261 I have been following the posts on different forums <http://www.panbo.com/archives/2008/01/smart_radio_sr261_pirate_class_a_ais.html><http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SR261/>and if it would work with MacENC? The cost of a Class A is out of my range in cost but would like to be like the big ships and also let the fishing vessels who have a AIS receiver know that I am in the vicinity and my course and speed. Currently have a SR162 and I would not leave the dock without it.
Another thing maybe someone can tell me what is going on, once in a while it shows up AIS contacts in areas of the US and gives distances of 2785 miles. I was able to monitor all traffic going in and out of the Los Angeles area and also New England and New York. What is that all about? Is it getting the info from my connection to the internet or what? I know that I am not receiving a VHF signal that distance and it sure is not propagation because VHF signals are not like HF signals and are short distance. So where am I getting these AIS signals from? Maybe it is a setting that I have done in MacENC.
Any help would be appreciated.
